1. What is the CleanFARMS™ obsolete pesticide collection campaign?

The CleanFARMS™ obsolete pesticide collection campaign is an industry-run program that provides farmers and other users of commercial-class

pesticides with a free and environmentally responsible way to safely dispose of obsolete pesticides.

2. What are obsolete pesticides?

For this program, obsolete pesticides are defined as commercial-class pesticides that are no longer registered, no longer wanted or which are

otherwise unusable by the purchaser of the product.

3. I have unwanted lawn and garden products. Can I bring them in for disposal by CleanFARMS™?

No, the CleanFARMS™ obsolete pesticide collection campaign is for commercial-class products only.

For home-use product disposal, contact your local municipality or provincial environment/conservation ministry for information on how and where to

dispose of these products.

4. When is the next CleanFARMS™ obsolete collection campaign in my province?

CleanFARMS delivers obsolete pesticide collection programs in every Canadian province typically on a three year rotation.

For more information on when a collection program will be delivered in your province please visit: www.cleanfarms.ca or call 416-622-4460.

5. What will be accepted for disposal at the obsolete pesticide collection sites?

De-registered, outdated, unusable or unwanted commercial-class pesticides will be accepted during the collection programs.

Also, time-to-time there are opportunities to dispose of other products. For instance in 2009, thanks to the support of the animal health and sharps

industries and the provincial Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the CleanFARMS™ collection campaign also included animal health

product wastes and used sharps in addition to obsolete pesticides.

6. Is the program free?

Yes, the program is free to its users because Canada’s plant science industry and various government co-funders cover the costs.

7. What does someone do until the next collection campaign if they have obsolete pesticides that must be disposed?

Products should be safely stored until the next CleanFARMS™ collection campaign.

These products should be stored in a clean, dry, secure and locked area and kept in their original containers until the next collection period.

8. What does someone do if they have obsolete pesticides that must be disposed of before the next campaign?

In that case, you should contact a hazardous waste hauler with a licence to operate in the province in which they reside. The hazardous waste hauler

will advise how the material will be collected, disposed and should provide any documentation that is required.

9. What does someone do if they have obsolete pharmaceuticals, vaccinations, animal pesticides and used sharps that must be disposed?

Many veterinarians will accept obsolete pharmaceuticals, vaccinations, animal pesticides, and used sharps free of charge for safe disposal.

Alternatively, you can contact a hazardous waste hauler with a licence to operate in the province in which they reside. The hazardous waste hauler

will advise how the material will be collected and disposed and appropriate documentation that is required.
