2011 PROGRAMS

British Columbia

In 2011, farmers in British Columbia turned in more than 22,000 kg of obsolete pesticides. View news release. See additional regional news releases here.

Saskatchewan

Farmers in southern Saskatchewan turned in unwanted or obsolete pesticides over a three-day period in October of 2011. View news release.

 

Quebec

CleanFARMS, in partnership with UPA, ran an obsolete pesticide collection program. Farmers turned in more than 51,000 kilograms of obsolete pesticides. See the news release

 

Rocky View

Farmers in Rocky View, Alberta, turned in more than 9,600 kilograms of unwanted pesticides in 2011. See the news release.

 

Prince Edward Island

Farmers in Prince Edward Island turned in more than 27,000 kg of obsolete pesticides in 2011. View news release.


2009 ONTARIO

In Ontario, industry collected and disposed of 117,000 kilograms of obsolete pesticides products

in cooperation with AGCare, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ontario Farm Animal Council,

Canadian Animal Health Institute, Ontario Veterinary Medical Association and Ontario Agri Business Association.

As part of this project, farmers brought their obsolete pesticides, unused animal health products and used sharps

(needles, syringes and scalpel blades) to a series of 16 collection sites for disposal on October 20-22, 2009.


BRITISH COLUMBIA

Farmers in the Peace Region had an opportunity to easily dispose of their obsolete

pesticides. During thecollection, over 3,000 kilograms of obsolete pesticides were collected. The British Columbia

program wasco-sponsored by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, BC Ministry of Environment, Environment Canada,

BC Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, BC Agriculture Council, Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC and Health

Canada and CropLife Canada.


2008 MANITOBA

In Manitoba, over 51,158 kilograms of unwanted and obsolete agricultural pesticides –enough

to fillapproximately four semi-trailers – were collected and disposed of. Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural

Initiatives Agriculture Sustainability Initiative Fund and Manitoba Conservation’s Sustainable Development

Innovations Fund partnered with CropLife Canada to collect obsolete pesticides from Manitoba farmers.
